In 2010 the ten children of James P. and Debra Fitzgerald Healy established the Foundation as a gift of gratitude to honor their parents. James and Debra have selflessly dedicated their lives to the education of their children. They believe the foundation of a quality education should be the legacy that they leave to their sons and daughters. Both have been steadfast in providing their children with the gift of excellent educations: a gift which Jim and Debra envision will manifest itself for the good of others.

Their vision would not be easily accomplished; but with their blue collar values and determination, Jim and Debra have never lost focus. As a public school custodian and nighttime deliveryman, Jim worked countless hours to provide the financial means necessary to support a family of twelve while supplementing the cost of ten high school and college educations. He serves as a paramount example of honorable work ethic for his children to emulate. Debra "holds down the fort" as she works her way through myriad school visits and reams of financial aid paperwork all the while fostering an infectious atmosphere of love and learning inside their home. James and Debra's unwavering commitment to their legacy of love and education has not only inspired their children to establish this foundation but also serves as a continual reminder of the challenges which parents willingly confront to provide their children with the gift of education.

The mission of the Foundation, through Jim and Debra's children and their dedicated spouses and close friends, is to celebrate the spirit of Jim and Debra and to offer scholarships in support of students and their families striving to share in that lifelong gift of education.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of the patriarch of the Healy family and one of our inspirations for the establishment of this Foundation.

On June 4, Jim Healy, the father to some of us and a friend to others, passed away peacefully at home embraced by the love of his family after a ferocious battle with cancer.

Jim left all of us firmly grounded with his quiet but invaluable lessons that he gave to us just by his being himself: the honor of hard work, the value of common sense, the importance of generosity, the magnitude of patience, and the necessity of a sense of humor. The gift from him that his family holds most dear is the priceless gift of his absolute love.

We will honor him every day.
